We have had volunteers in school to do an ‘Open The Book’ Assembly where they read Bible stories – this was led by Rev. Jane Cook. This is going to be a regular event, and they gave school a children’s Bible.
We visited Souter Lighthouse to find out more about what Grace Darling’s life might have been like. The children looked around the lighthouse keeper’s cottage and found out what various items such as a carpet beater would have been used for. The children were extremely brave and climbed to the very top of the lighthouse to find out how the light works. They finished the day by making their own miniature lighthouses with a circuit to make it light up.
Last week year five had the pleasure of working with John Kefala-Kerr , a composer. We used a range of resources to make music that could accompany detective fiction; having the focus word ‘mystery’ helped a lot. Some of the resources we used included: cornflakes, bubble wrap and plastic bags. We thought about the tone, pitch and pace of the sounds that we made and worked in groups to compose a range of sounds. Some of our sounds will be sued in the new exhibition at The Word. We can’t wait to visit to see if we can recognise our sounds.
